The Uffizi Galleries have devoted (27 June-27 October 2019) an exhibition to Jewish textiles, an exhibition concerning places of worship but also the history of textiles, embroidery and fashion. From ancient liturgical vestments and the symbology of the holy ark and candelabrum, to writing and other decorative forms that made it possible to overcome the prohibition of human and animal representations, from the wide variety of women’s garments to coats of arms, from the network of Mediterranean trade in fabrics and colours to lace, right up to today’s Made in Italy, all the aspects of a multi-coloured and little-known world, that of the Jewish visual culture linked to textiles.
