THE ORIGINS OF THE FLORENTINE PAINTINGS (1100-1270)

155,00

Written entirely in English, this volume, the first book on the origins of painting in Florence (the plan of the work of which it is a part is given below), is devoted to Medieval Florentine painting between 1100 and 1270, a book that not only presents, classifies and comments, but also seeks to set this artistic output within the figurative cultural context of the period. This volume is part of the work ”A Critical and Historical Corpus of Florentine Painting” (30 volumes on completion) which is a fundamental tool for artistic-historical research and offers the most complete scientific information and the most extensive photographic documentation ever produced on Florentine painting of the pre-Renaissance period. Each volume, entirely in English, consists of a historical and critical study of an artist, or group of artists, with a complete and richly illustrated catalogue of the works and publication of the relevant documents. Begun by Richard Offner in 1930, and continued by Klara Steinweg, the project was later assigned by New York University to Miklós Boskovits, and all the material collected by Offner was placed at the disposal of the Institute of Art History of the University of Florence.
