INTORNO A DÜRER. GLI ANTICHI MAESTRI TEDESCHI NELLA COLLEZIONE DEL GABINETTO DEI DISEGNI LE STAMPE

45,00

A precious book devoted to the Uffizi print collections, and in particular to the German masters prior to, contemporary with, and slightly after Albrecht Dürer, hundreds of works from between 1470 and 1550, including works by Baldung Grien, Schongauer and the “Monogrammer MZ”. Following on from his previous study on the engravings of Dürer himself, the author began his work with the inventory of the Galleries, compiled in the first half of the nineteenth century by Antonio Ramirez di Montalvo, first in the role of Assistant and then as Director of the Florentine collections. A monumental work of cataloguing, analysis, restoration and examination of the watermarks, a historiographical and collection-related study that reconstructs an important part of how German engraving was perceived in Italy in the modern age. It is also an analysis of the individual prints from a stylistic, technical and iconographic perspective.
