VENUS ITALICA
Small-scale reproduction of the famous statue, depicting the goddess Venus, work of the neoclassical sculptor Antonio Canova.
Handcrafted product made in Tuscany in bronzed resin, with marble base.
The original statue is to be found inside the Galleria Palatina, Palazzo Pitti.
Made between 1804 and 1812, this splendid sculpture in Carrara marble was commissioned following the transfer to France, atthe behest of Napoleon, of the Venere de ‘Medici – a work of classical art. Critics of the time welcomed the sculpture as a masterpiece, making forget its role as a substitute. With its delicacy and rich drapery, the Venus Italica expresses, may be even more than its ancient sister, the sense of modesty and sweetness of Venus surprised in the bath.
