INNOCENTE E CALUNNIATO. FEDERICO ZUCCARI E LE VENDETTE D’ARTISTA

Exhibition catalogue: Florence, Uffizi Department of Prints and Drawings, 6 December 2009 – 28 February 2010.This initiative, curated by Cristina Acidini and Elena Capretti, consists of an series of works that perfectly showcases the creative flair of an artist like Federico Zuccari, who, despite having colleagues of the highest calibre in the 16th century who are perhaps better known than he is, represents so well the spirit of European Mannerism. Divided into eight sections, it focuses on particular themes tackled by the artist, including the Calumny of Apelles , the Truth Revealed by Time, the Allegories of Human Life, the Last Judgement, the Porta Virtutis, the illustration of the Divine Comedy, and the Celebration of the Virtuous Artist, all of which clearly reference the theme of the Slandered Innocent, which intrigued not only Zuccari but also other artists, including Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
